Carbon installing smoke detectors

Carbon County officials are working to protect their employees, the visitors and their assets.

On Thursday, the commissioners approved a proposal with Larry McCullion and Son Electrical of Summit Hill for the installation of 22 smoke detectors in the basement, first floor and garage areas of the county archives building. The cost for the detectors and installation work components is $7,900.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner commended the county safety committee for their work over the past two months with bringing many potential safety problems to his attention so the board can work on making it as safe as possible.

Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said that this smoke detector project is a prime example of what Ahner and the safety committee is completing to protect the county.

He said that the smoke detectors will protect both the workers in the archives building, as well as the critical assets of the county in the records that are stored in the building.

In addition, the board voted on two contracts to install three space ray infrared propane ceiling heaters, thermostats, gas piping and a 1,000-gallon tank at the Carbon County Storage Facility.

A&W Plumbing of Nesquehoning will complete the heater project at a cost of $10,200, while Fegley Oil Company Inc. of Tamaqua will install the 1,000 gallon propane tank at a cost of $3,200. In addition, Fegley will the tank with 800 gallons at a total cost of $1,112.

“It’s our commitment to maximizing the use of that facility for use as a year-round storage facility,” Lukasevich said. “It’s about taking care of our workers and our team members that they have the appropriate facility to do their job.”
