Act should be amended

Dear Editor,

Concerning the International Religious Freedom Act, I sent our Pennsylvania Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey proposed amendments to this act in March 17, and again on March 23.I have yet to get a response from either office. Did I really expect to get a real reply or some disingenuous form letter?Several of the proposed amendments included additions to the list of atrocities such as: crucifying, burning and beheading. Of course, there's probably more important legislation to work on, and since it's really not a big deal here in America, why bother.Another problem is the way the IRF is presently written, it places all the sanction authority of any offending country solely in the hands of the president, and not the House and Senate. It's like a one-man show with a one-man band, and he plays only the tunes he wants to.That also must change, considering the ongoing atrocities committed against different religions worldwide. Maybe a traveling D.C. legislator from another state passing through Pennsylvania might pick up this paper somewhere along the line, and personally take up this cause. Why does this have to go to that extent?Rich SaporitoWest Mifflin
