Hillside SPCA launches capital campaign

The Hillside SPCA is continuing its capital campaign as the demolition and rebuild of its “big dog” building continues.

The no-kill shelter near Pottsville is addressing wear and tear on its facilities and adding a veterinary clinic.

Plans were to renovate the building; however, serious structural deficiencies were identified.

The former building was demolished, and a new pole building has been installed. The concrete is expected to be poured in early November followed by interior walls and finishes.

“Rebuilding the aging big dog building with a safer, more functional space designed to better serve the dogs in our care as well as the needs of staff and volunteers is tremendously important to our mission,” said shelter manager Sherrie Schafer.

The project is only one part of the campaign. Once complete, renovations to the shelter’s cat building and small dog building will begin.

Hillside SPCA is grateful to the individuals, businesses, organizations and volunteers whose donations, materials, services and hard work have helped make the progress possible.

Those wishing to support the campaign can donate online at www.hillsidespca.com or by mail at Hillside SPCA Inc., P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901. Checks should be made payable to Hillside SPCA with “Capital Campaign” noted in the memo line.
