A Sheppton man died in a tragic one-vehicle crash Friday at 9:27 p.m. on the Brandonville Road in Mahanoy Township.

State police at the Frackville barracks said Donald J. Spevak, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.

Police said he was driving a 2024 GMC Sierra northbound when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the highway and the Sierra traveled into the southbound lane, continued north and exited the road, traveling onto the grass off the southbound laned where it struck an embankment and overturned several times. Police said while the vehicle was overturning, it struck several street signs off the southbound land before re-entering the roadway and coming to rest facing south, overturning onto its left side.

Police said a passenger in the vehicle, Aliba A. Ziolko, 61, of McAdoo, had minor injuries and was transported by personnel from the Frackville Community Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pottsville, for an evaluation.

Police said the vehicle had disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
