Palmerton Pre-K Counts has some openings

Towamensing Elementary completed its Pre-K Counts fall program review Monday, and Palmerton Area School District administrators expect a clean result.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Daniel Heaney briefed the school board Tuesday night.

“While we haven’t received our official results, I feel very good about how the review went,” Heaney said. “We appear to be in compliance.”

State reviewers examined student eligibility and income documentation, enrollment and waitlist records, and staff qualifications. They also observed a classroom.

“It’s quite extensive,” Heaney said. “After the classroom observation, we met for close to three hours.”

Official results are pending.

Heaney used the report to make a pitch. The district still has room in the program at two buildings.

“If anyone knows any students looking for a high-quality pre-K program, we still have some slots available at both Towamensing and Parkside,” he said.

Pre-K Counts is a state-funded program administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. It provides free prekindergarten to eligible families.
