Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Sept. 24 with 26 members present.

President Jean Machamer opened the meeting with the invocation, “Be My Friend.”

The group chanced off a fall wreath, plaques, candy and more, which were won by a member.

The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited.

Purse/cash bingo

A designer purse and cash bingo will be held Sunday at Zion Stone Church in Snyders. Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Advance tickets are available for a discount. No one under 14 allowed. There is limited seating. Call 570-952-4689 for advance tickets. There also will be a basket raffle and other raffles.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Deb Rogers will bring the message and distribute Holy Communion at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at Calvary Evangelical Church in Lewistown. Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m. There will be no Sunday evening service.

The Wednesday prayer and share is at 7 p.m. All are welcome to all services.

On Oct. 11, the church will hold its annual Sunday school Rally Day with something for all to enjoy. Rally Day begins at 11 a.m. with music, puppets and object lessons, all of which are biblically based. At 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11, Jared and Katie Wehry of Northumberland will present a gospel concert. Jared is the “instrument playing” son of the former Wehry Family Gospel Singers.

Rummage sale

A rummage sale and 50/50 will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Pine and Mauch Chunk streets, Tamaqua. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Bag day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 8. There will be great finds at great prices. Lunch and supper will be served and takeouts will be available.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Communion will be included during the service.

The Adult and Children’s Sunday School are scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

The Women’s Bible Study will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Memorial Hall.

St. Peter’s — West Penn

The 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn will have communion. Adult Sunday school is at 10:15 a.m. Apple dumpling orders are due Sunday.

On Oct. 8, a Hope in the Middle podcast will be on Facebook at 11 a.m., and the Senior Choir rehearses at 7 p.m.

Luncheon

An Autumn Harvest with Friends luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 13 at Grace Free Church, 10 Hollenbush Lane, Orwigsburg. The soloist will be Karen Bensinger.

The event is sponsored by Schuylkill Women’s Connection/Stonecroft Ministries. Reservations are due by Oct. 6 and can be made by calling 570-617-3896 or 570-617-9490.

Open house

The Coalcracker Barbershop Chorus will hold an open house at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Tamaqua Arts Center and invites the public to stop by.

The chorus will learn a new song “Let it Snow” during the open house. They will learn it in four-part harmony and invite all to see how they practice, as well as listen and learn with them.

New members are welcome. It is open to men, women, and boys and girls of high school age or older.

Rummage sale

A rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 10 and 12 at St. John UCC, 150 Pine St., Tamaqua. A variety of items will be available.
