Weatherly Area School District and Hoffman Homes Inc. finalized an agreement to provide educational and therapeutic services to district students who require a specialized learning environment, according to documents dated Aug. 17.

The agreement covers students who need educational programming in a therapeutic setting or require special education services as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs. Hoffman operates Hoffman Academy, a private licensed school in Littlestown, Pa., that serves children with and without special education needs.

Under the terms of the agreement, the district will pay Hoffman $200 per instructional day for each student placed at the academy. The agreement runs through June 30, 2027, or the conclusion of 2027 extended school year services, whichever comes later.

The addendum to the agreement notes that services such as one-on-one support, extended school year programming and English Language Learner services will be billed separately.

Hoffman will implement each student’s IEP and provide the district with quarterly progress monitoring reports, or more frequently upon request. If Hoffman determines it can’t meet a student’s needs, the agreement requires written notification to both the parent or guardian and the school district.

Either party may terminate the agreement with 21 days’ written notice. Immediate removal, however, is permitted for serious disciplinary infractions or safety reasons that would allow removal under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

According to the agreement, the academy is designed to serve students with behavioral challenges and that such infractions must present exceptional circumstances to qualify for immediate termination.
