The Tamaqua Public Library hosted 70 students and teachers from Tamaqua Middle School’s sixth, seventh and eighth grade Title 1 Math and Reading programs.

The idea for the field trip came about after Melissa Hess, library coordinator, and Michele Klein, children’s program coordinator, attended the Title I Spring Fling in April.

Seeing the need to introduce middle school students to the library, teachers Nicole Evans and Maryann Herring coordinated with Hess to make the trip a reality.

Teachers took a walk with the students to the library, showing them the ease of which they can get there and find a space where they can read, use technology, relax and hang out with friends after school.

Students were given QR codes to sign up for or have their parents sign them up for free library cards. They also received a QR code to access the library’s Facebook page, which keeps all up to date on events, programs and more.

Also helping with the field trip were library staff members Tonia Zukowsky, book cataloger; Tatyanna Alicea, STEAM program coordinator; and Jess Piper, library clerk; and middle school teachers Allison Morrison and Stewart Caladie.
