Calvary Lewistown
Calvary Evangelical Church, 824 Catawissa Road, Tamaqua, will celebrate the Lord’s Day on Sunday. The worship service is at 11 a.m. with the sermon by the Rev. Debra Rogers. There will be special music. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:45 a.m. and the care and share service is at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
On Wednesday, Bible and prayer time for all ages will be held at 7 p.m. All are welcome to all services.
Purse/cash bingo
A designer purse and cash bingo will be held Oct. 4 at Zion Stone Church in Snyders. Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Advance tickets are available for a discount. No one under 14 allowed. There is limited seating. Call 570-952-4689 for advance tickets. There will also be a basket raffle and other raffles.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. The Children’s and Adult’s Sunday schools are scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Eileen Williams will lead a five-week Women’s Bible Study during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school hour at Memorial Hall.
St. Peter’s — West Penn
The 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn Township will be celebrated as National Back to Church Sunday/Membership Sunday. Adult Sunday school is at 10:15 a.m.
At the 9 a.m. Sept. 27 service, there will be a blessing of the animals followed by a meeting of the church board at 11 a.m.
Senior Citizens
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Sept. 10 with 25 members present and two guests.
President Jean Machamer opened the meeting with the invocation, “The Harmony of Life.” The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.
Members also had a moment of silence in remembrance of Sept. 11 and those who perished.
Refreshments were served and snacks provided. Machamer also gave each member ice cream at intermission.
The meeting closed and bingo was played.
The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited.
