Banks Twp. targeting unregistered cars

If a Banks Township resident finds a bright green sticker on their vehicle, they’d better move it quickly or it will be towed away at their expense.

Any unlicensed and uninspected vehicles parked on streets, alleys or other township property will be tagged and towed.

Supervisor Charles Schalles said the process has already begun.

“We towed a bunch of cars out of Audenried,” Schalles said. “We towed one out of the woods that fell apart.”

Towing junk autos is part of the supervisors’ overall crackdown on code violations in the township.

Supervisor Bill Nice Jr. said there are 16 active notices of violations, four of which have been closed. Three new ones have been filed, he said.

Schalles said the supervisors intend to have Lincoln Street paved. “It was measured, but the contractor who was going to do it backed out,” he said. “We’re looking for a new one.”

Next year, Schalles said the first 150 feet of Lincoln Circle in Junedale will be paved with a $130,000 grant the township has applied for.

In the meantime, Nice said millings will be used to smooth out the road.

New playground equipment has arrived at the township but must be installed, Schalles said.

Last month, the township took deed to the entire Babe Ruth baseball field. The township had owned most of it, but Schalles said the Pagnotti Coal Co. deeded the rest of the land to the township.
