Monroe County incidents
State police at the Stroudsburg barracks reported the following incidents:
• Police are investigating an online theft reported to them at 9:22 a.m. May 8.
A 65-year-old man from Greenview Drive, Hamilton Township, Saylorsburg, said that he had $6,868.32 stolen from him in an incident that involved a 2019 Lincoln Continental.
• Charles Purnell, 35, of Sharon Hill, was cited for disorderly conduct after an incident at 8:40 a.m. June 20 on Route 33 in Hamilton Township.
Police said he was walking along the highway during active construction when police told him not to do so because it was unsafe. Police said he persisted and refused to leave the scene.
• Police are investigating a theft incident in which a 77-year-old man from Stroudsburg is the victim.
He reported to police at 3:17 p.m. Aug. 3 that $100 was stolen from him on Route 115, Hamilton Township.
• A 58-year-old Saylorsburg woman is the victim of a banking scam, police said.
The resident of Club House Road, Hamilton Township, told police that at 3:39 p.m. Aug. 7 she received a phone call from someone purporting to be from her bank, with the caller reporting that her accounts had been compromised.
The caller advised the woman to make several money transfers using Zelle and to open a Chime account, which would help protect her accounts. When the woman went to the bank’s physical location she learned that she was being scammed.
She lost $980 and $284 in the two transactions.
• Police were called to a Protection From Abuse court order violation at 11:47 a.m. Aug. 9 on Overlook Drive, Hamilton Township, resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old man from Canadensis.
They said an 18-year-old woman from Stroudsburg reported she was indirectly contacted by the man via telephone and also received a handwritten note in her mailbox.
• Two people were cited for harassment by physical contact after police were called to a domestic disturbance at 1:20 p.m. Aug. 9 on Kettle Ridge Drive, Hamilton Township.
Police said the parties pushed and shoved each other.
• Police were called to a theft by deception/identity theft incident at 1:40 p.m. Aug. 11 on Depue Lane, Hamilton Township.
They said the victim is a 68-year-old Stroudsburg woman.
• Police said a 75-year-old woman from Bartonsville believes a lockbox was stolen from her.
The resident of Old Timber Road, Hamilton Township, told police at 3:14 p.m. Aug. 11 that she has been unable to locate the box, which is valued at $50. It contained her Social Security card, birth certificate and several silver coins worth approximately $200.
The woman said she has been unable to find the box in her home for several months.
• The theft of a motorcycle license plate reported at 10:24 a.m. Aug. 12 from Friemann Lane, Hamilton Township, is under investigation.
Police said the victim is Shannon Smith, 47, of Saylorsburg.
They said the plate has a registration number of 32BY0.
• Nicholas Rumfield, 32, of Easton, was cited for harassment by physical contact after police responded to a domestic incident at 6:57 p.m. Aug. 12 on Roy Lane, Hamilton Township.
Police said the victim was a 58-year-old Stroudsburg man.
