Joseph Flickinger, who serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the Borough of Weissport, gave an update on the Hazard Mitigation Plan to the Weissport Borough Council at its meeting Monday.

“There have been multiple team meetings that I have attended, as well as all the appropriate information has been submitted,” Flickinger noted. “I want to thank Mike Muffley (Weissport Engineer) for giving pertinent information in regards to that. There are three more planning meetings scheduled between the end of this month and October, the draft plan should be submitted to FEMA beginning of November to FEMA by the end of November and ready for municipal adoption in February.”

Flickinger noted that a report was submitted to council on June 29 for the first half of 2026, showing over 200 hours of training conducted along with 20 hours of meeting seminars.

“There are 80 more hours scheduled throughout the end of this year, with an additional 40 hours wait-listed,” he advised.

Flickinger also noted that he was notified that he was accepted into the FEMA National Emergency Management Advanced Academy through the National Disaster and Emergency Management University for 2027.

The Advanced Academy consists of 30 individuals per academy of applicants from across the country, culminating from individuals representing local, state, federal, tribal, territorial governments, and private sector,” Flickinger noted. “And to graduate, you must complete 133 hours of the academy training, as well as do a capstone project.”

In other business, Council approved the TraCS software agreement, a free software program that will be used by Weissport Interim Chief of Police Anthony Vaillant.

The company says on its website, “Using the latest mobile computing technologies to capture and report incident data where it occurs, TraCS improves the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of incident data and reduces user’s administrative duties and paperwork.”

Council voted to hold off the fall spraying of weeds, and will have it done until the spring.
