A total of 811 new cases were started in July in the Carbon County Prothonotary’s Office, according to a monthly statistical report issued by Kayla M. Semmel, the officeholder.

A breakdown of those cases includes: civil actions, 55; court rules, 5; court appointment, 1; judgments, 614; custody complaints, 14; declaratory judgment, 1; district justice appeals, 8; divorce complaints, 23, complaints in ejectment, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 11; complaint in replevin, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 22; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; mental health cases, 9; miscellaneous cases, 4; quiet title action, 1; complaint in partition, 1; custody modifications, 16; and writs of execution, 19.

Semmel reported the total income generated last month amounted to $49,429.08, including: prothonotary fees, $37,875.01; custody/divorce fees, $2,410.15; data processing fees, $8,169.98; interest income, $275.19; PFA surcharge, sheriff, $50.00; PFA surcharge, courts, $50; and stenographer fees, $598.75.

In addition to the above fees, the prothonotary remitted to the county $1,050 for the Remote Access Fund; $6,750.52 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of

Revenue, this being fees collected on new cases; and $2,287.09 to Prothonotary’s Automation Fund, representing funds generated for future automation and improvements to the office.

A total of $34 was turned over to the state, representing taxes on passport photos taken and sold in the office.

The office staff processed 29 new passport applications, assisted in the renewal of 15 passport applications, and took 34 passport photos.
