Jarred Simmons, 30, of Albrightsville, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol following a 9:55 p.m. on July 29 head-on crash that left several people injured in Franklin Township.

According to township police, officers were dispatched to an accident on the “S” curves of Route 209 near LaRose’s skating rink.

When police spoke to Simmons, who was seated inside his vehicle, they noticed an odor of alcohol. Police said Simmons initially told them that he did not drink, but later admitted to having one drink several hours earlier.

Officers spoke to the four people in the vehicle that Simmons’ car hit. They said that Simmons car came into their lane head-on before the impact.

It was later learned that one of the occupants suffered a fractured sternum, and another had broken his hand in the crash.

An investigation revealed that Simmons’ vehicle had nearly no tread on its front two tires. The road was wet, and Simmons lost control before striking a rock wall and hitting the other vehicle, police said.

Simmons consented to a blood-alcohol test. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William J. Kissner on charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving, reckless driving, disregard for traffic lane, operating a vehicle without inspection, speeding and tire equipment. He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
