Slatington Public Library, 650 Main St., Slatington, will hold its 90th anniversary celebration at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 12, beginning with light refreshments followed by speeches by community dignitaries and Trustees of the Slatington Public Library.

More than 60 invitations were mailed out to the library’s community and municipal partners, as well as many donors and friends of the library.

There will be memorabilia of the Slatington Public Library with a walk through of the nine decades of fun facts from 1936 to 2026.

The event is open to the community. Families and individuals will each receive a commemorative gift at the anniversary celebration, while supplies last.

Salem Welsh Presbyterian Church’s Ladies Bible Club began the library in 1936 with only 50 books. Today, the Slatington Public Library is located on the main floor of the former Miller’s 5 & 10 store in the Slatington Historic District.

The staff of the public library said it remains steadfast in upholding its mission statement — “To improve and enrich the lives of its residents in our community through information, recreation, and education, using both traditional methods and emerging technologies.”

“Slatington Public Library does more than build its community — it is the hub of the Northern Lehigh community,” the staff said. “We provide essential free access to many resources and information. The Slatington Public Library supports education and literacy as a critical community gathering place. We support early literacy through its Fall and Spring Preschool Story hour, the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, a summer reading program with many incentives, and Mrs. Santa and Dr. Seuss birthday celebration events.”

Slatington Public Library also will hold its 30th Annual Basket Social at the Slatedale Fire Company, 3922 Main St., Slatington, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 26.
