Palmerton Borough Council took the following action recently:
• Approved a resolution for the application to the Department of Community and Economic Development for the multimodal grant program for street lighting upgrade. The borough is applying for funds in the amount of $125,289 through the Multi-Modal Grant program to upgrade borough-owned streetlights with LED fixtures. There are about 205 lights that would need to be upgraded.
• Approved a resolution for the Community Development Block Grant fiscal year 2026 submittal through Carbon County. The borough will receive $90,843, and plans to use the funds for various ADA ramps on sidewalks.
• Ratified a letter of support for the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency grant. The borough applied for funds for training equipment for the police department in the amount of $46,675.
• Approved the expenditure for overage of the Community Development Block Grant project for paving of south side of Mauch Chunk Road in the amount of $18,024 to Bracalente Construction, from the capital fund.
• Approved the sale of Unit 56 from the Palmerton Police Department for $1,150 on Municibid.
