Schuylkill County commissioners on Thursday agreed to purchase 25,000 calendars for $54,250 from Brainstorm Print and Design, Pottsville.

Purchased through the state’s COSTARS cooperative purchasing program, the 18-month calendars will feature mental health and drug and alcohol information. Pictures for the calendars are the drawings of this year’s Schuylkill County Mental Health and Developmental Services’ annual poster contest winners.

This year’s theme was “You are loved!”

Distribution of the calendars is to go to all county schools for all grades.

In other matters Thursday, commissioners approved the purchase of 6,000 hygiene kits for a total of $51,509 from the nonprofit Convenience Kits International in Oceanside, New York.

Also purchased through COSTARS, the hygiene kits will be distributed to high schools’ nurses’ offices to be given out to students.

The approvals call for a 50 percent down payment prior to the order being placed, and the other half due at the time of delivery.
