The sun was shining, youth kept themselves immersed in activities, and there were more vendors than ever.

Palmerton Police Department couldn’t have drawn things up any more perfect for its National Night Out event held Tuesday in the borough park.

Geared to provide the community with an opportunity to interact with police officers in a friendly, comfortable setting, over 50 vendors participated.

Palmerton Police Chief Tim Kromer said the community service agencies varied from law enforcement to fire departments to first responders to businesses and more as its popularity continues to expand.

“It’s massive, bigger then last year,” Kromer said. “It continues to grow.”

Kromer said the event also serves to make the community aware of all the resources that are available to them.

Parent Tyler Price of Palmerton noted the importance of that, and pointed out the vast assortment of fun activities that were available for the youth to partake in.

In addition to the activities, police handed out free popcorn and water, while there was also free ice cream from Tastefully Twisted.

The event was sponsored by Blue Ridge Communications and Servpro Team Doyle.

Afterward, there was a Movie in the Park, “National Treasure,” presented by the Concourse Club of Palmerton.
