Tamaqua will hold National Night Out from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a host of activities, a Touch a Truck, free food — and even a petting zoo.

The annual event will be held at the Tamaqua Area High School parking lot and all are invited.

“All Tamaqua fire companies will be there, along with the (Tamaqua) rescue squad, ambulance and fire police,” Tamaqua Mayor Dave Clemson said. “And of course the Tamaqua Police Department will have a tent set up.”

Attendees are invited to meet police officers, and get an up close look at emergency responders’ vehicles.

In addition, Clemson said Blue Mountain Resort, Tamaqua Community Center, Tamaqua Financial Opportunity Center, Matrix Behavioral Services, U.S. Air Force, Ember Abstract, Child Development, State Parole and St Luke’s/Star Community Health Network will be on hand.

Many vendors will offer free crafts and other activities for children.

The petting zoo will run the length of the event.

Free hot dogs, donated by the Boyers Food Store in Tamaqua, will be served. Water will be free, as well.

Clemson hinted that there may be some other free items given to attendees.

“Come on out and meet the first responders of Tamaqua. We are blessed to have so many volunteers in our great community,” Clemson said. “It is going to be a great evening.”
