The following items were discussed or acted upon during the Polk Township supervisors’ monthly meeting in July.

• A public hearing was held about three zoning amendments. The Planning Commission reviewed the proposed changes. There were no public comments, so the amendments were adopted at the supervisors meeting. The amendments are a stormwater ordinance, assistant dwelling units (in-law suites) and updated data center zoning.

• The Polk Fire Company responded to 23 emergencies, with a year to date total of 159 emergencies.

• Firefighters completed 166 hours of training in June and participated in 80 hours of fundraising.

• A letter of support was approved for applying for a Monroe County LSA grant for new attack lines and nozzles.

• Updates were provided about two culverts that need repair on Dotters Corner Road. An emergency permit was granted for the culvert near Jonas Road. Another permit will be submitted for the Kresgeville culvert. Supervisors discussed whether it was better to rent an excavator for $900 a day or $2,500 a week or higher someone for $200 an hour to fix the culverts. No decision has been made at this point.

• John Ferris will be hired on a 90 day trial at $18 per hour at the recycling center.

• A plaque will be hung for long time recycling center employee Blaine Borger, who recently passed away.

• Supervisors addressed possibly putting a list together of allowed uses for the township park. Small repairs need to be done on the playground equipment at the park.
