Gates to the Schuylkill County Fair open today at 4 p.m. at the county fairgrounds along Route 895 in Summit Station.

The theme for this year’s fair, which continues daily through Saturday, is “Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom, Family and PA Farms.”

In addition to amusement rides, food and exhibits, a host of activities are on tap today, which is Pulling Day.

The Royalty Contest begins at 4 p.m. with crowning at 6 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., a tractor parade takes off from the main gate. Porcupine Pat McKinney will present “Ways of Wildlife” at 6 p.m. from the indoor midway. From 6-7:30 p.m., attendees can meet 4H Club members and their horses at the horse barn. The dairy judging contest will begin at 6:15 p.m. from the arena.

At 7 p.m., Pull Off Productions will have pro-street, limited pro, king of the street, pro street gas, wild street and street semis from the agricultural museum track for an additional fee.

At 7 and 9 p.m., the New Individuals will perform.

Tuesday is Kids Day, and gates will open at 11 a.m.

A Touch-A-Truck will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the kids area, and a stick horse obstacle course will be held from 11-2:30 p.m. at the horse barn.

Kids’ contests will be held every half hour beginning at noon from the kids are. Rides open at 1 p.m. The Schuylkill Ballet Theater will perform at 1 p.m., and a tractor parade begins at 1:30 p.m.

Kids’ line dancing will be held at 2, 4 and 6 p.m., and a miniature horse performance will be held at 3 p.m. from the horse barn.

A BAAAD Girls sheep to shawl demonstration will run from 5-8 p.m. from the midway, and a market turkey show will be held in the rabbit area at 5 p.m.

Unicorn Dress Up runs from 5-7 p.m. from the horse barn, and a pedal tractor pull will be held at 5:30 p.m. from the kids area. Hemlock Hanna will present “Colors of Critters” at 6 p.m. from the indoor midway.

Atlantic Pro Pulling will have truck and tractor pulls on the track at 7 p.m. for an additional fee. The Six Times Nine Band will perform at 7 and 9 p.m.
