Free dinner set

Tonight, from 5-6 p.m., folks can pick up a free typical summer cookout meal at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville. The menu features hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, watermelon, dessert and a water bottle. All are welcome.

Eldred Township

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors are to meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the township office at 490 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown.

S’burg Farmers Market

The Saylorsburg Farmers Market continues to have space available for more vendors.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday at Saylors Inn, 798 Route 115, in Saylorsburg.

Library family event

At 6 p.m. Thursday, the family event at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will be Electric City Aquarium. Registration is recommended; call 570-992-7934.

The scheduled food trucks are Pocono Potato Chip, Twisted Pretzel Express and Mother Trucking Tacos & Grub.

On Friday, the Adult Art Studio gathers at 10:30 a.m. The topic is marbled paper.

Farmers market

This Saturday there will be a farmers market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville. New vendors are welcome. Apply at brodheadsvillefarmersmarket@gmail.com.

BugFest on Saturday

On Saturday, the annual BugFest will be held at Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center. The family-friendly event is co-hosted by Kettle Creek and Monroe County 4-H Insects Are Us.

A passport to BugFest will guide folks to stations such as the insect zoo, build-a-bug craft, free face painting, make your own antennae, outdoor insect safari, live butterfly tent and many others. At the end of the session, each participant can turn in his or her stamped passport to receive a prize.

Children will visit at the interactive stations with volunteers from the Monroe County Bee Keepers Association, Master Gardeners, Penn State Extension and more.

Participants at the afternoon session can enjoy the release of the monarch and painted lady butterflies at the end of the day.

There is a cost for children ages 3-12 years. Anyone under 3 or above 12, including parents, can attend for free. Preregister at mcconservation.org for either the morning session, 9:30 a.m. to noon, or the afternoon session, 12:30-3 p.m. Preregistration is required.

Christmas in July

Holy Communion will be offered this Sunday at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, as the church celebrates Christmas in July at its 9:30 a.m. worship service. Included will be Christmas carols. Families are asked to bring food to share on this special day.

Membership class

St. Matthew’s ECC Church, Kunkletown, is holding new membership classes every Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to noon, from July 19 through Aug. 9. Folks are asked to sign up on the clipboard at the Welcome Center table.

Senior Games

The Pennsylvania Senior Games take place at State College from July 24 to Aug. 2.

Athletes must be 50 or older.

Annual picnic

St. Matthew’s EC Church grove, Kunkletown, will be the site of the Northeast District of the Evangelical Congregational Church annual picnic on July 25 beginning at 1 p.m.

It offers a traditional picnic menu, devotional message, music and various activities.

The grove will also be used for the Aug. 9 and Sept. 13 summer services. Bring lawn chairs.

Busy July 26

Effort UMC is having only one worship service on July 26, at 10 a.m., and it will be a hymn sing. The church family will then hold its annual church family picnic, beginning at 11:30 a.m., hosted by the Women’s Group of Effort. It will be held in the Pavilion, rain or shine.

Games will be available for all.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by the Women’s Group. Guests are asked to bring a side dish and lawn chairs.

Free kids meals

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network on Route 209 in Sciota has a free summer Meals for Kids program.

The program runs through Aug. 13 from 8-11 a.m. every Thursday.

Families will receive five days of shelf-stable breakfasts and lunches for each child up to age 18. Young people over 18 who are enrolled in school programs for students with disabilities are also eligible.

There are no residency or income requirements; all the PVEN needs is the number of children in need of the food. Verify that there are still openings by calling the PVEN at 570-992-3136.

Shoes needed

Effort UMC announced that Bowman Park Camp needs new and gently worn used shoes. A bin has been placed in the Effort church narthex for the collection through Aug 8.

Habitat dinner

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is holding its 2026 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort on July 22.

Registration is free for all volunteers who have volunteered at least once in the past year.

Polk Township

The next general meeting of the Polk Township supervisors is set for 6:30 p.m. July 27.

The Parks & Recreation Committee will meet at 6 p.m. July 30.

The Historical Society and the Veterans Memorial Commission are not slated to meet this month.

Ross Township

The Ross Township Park Committee is looking for new members.

Counting turkeys

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is again asking the public to report sightings of all wild turkeys they see this summer. The annual Wild Turkey Summer Sighting Survey runs through Aug. 31.

The sightings, which aid in population management, can be reported to the Game Commission’s website at www.pa.gov/agencies/pgc.

Bog walks continue

Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has guided public walks into the Tannersville Cranberry Bog each Wednesday through Nov. 4. There is a cost.

The two-hour walks begin at 10 a.m. at the bog and are conducted by an environmental educator.

The GPS address is 552 Cherry Lane Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.

Preregistration and payment is required in advance. People can register and pay at mcconservation.org.

Day camps

Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers summer day camps.

The camps are:

• Get in Touch with Nature for ages 7-10 — Aug. 3-7.

• Adventure Camp for ages 11-13 — Aug. 3-7 or Aug. 17-21.

Camps are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with early care and late pickup available.
