Lehighton opens rec center to residents without power

Lehighton has opened its rec center for residents of the borough without power after a fast-moving thunderstorm knocked down trees throughout Carbon County.

The borough posted on its Facebook page that residents or neighbors of the borough without power and have life-sustaining medical devices are invited to the Lehighton Recreation Center, 248 S. Eighth St.

Borough crews are working until power is restored. Any updates to the outage will be posted on the borough’s Facebook page.

The borough posted on its Facebook page that homeowners are strongly advised to stand clear of any downed electrical lines on your property and in the public right of way, and to treat any electrical lines as live.

Lehighton Borough workers are on-call, making their rounds to repair any downed utility lines.

If you notice that your electrical service has been torn off your home, the borough recommends to post your address below or call the Community Center nonemergency number at 570-325-9123.
