Motorcyclist dies in turnpike crash

A motorcyclist died of injuries he sustained in a crash Tuesday at about 4:25 p.m. on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said the 39-year-old has been positively identified but his name is being withheld at this time out of respect for the family’s privacy and to allow them time to grieve the sudden and tragic loss.

Buglio said the man was pronounced dead at about 5:31 in the emergency department of the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township. The coroner said the victim sustained multiple traumatic injuries.

The crash occurred in the area of mile marker 63.1 in North Whitehall Township where the cycle was involved in a collision with a tractor trailer, Buglio said.

The crash remains under investigation by state police at the Pocono barracks.
