May 28, 2004 — Pleasant Valley’s Kati Dempsey and Tamaqua’s Tracy Yatsko both earn medals on the first day of the PIAA State Track & Field Championships at Shippensburg University. Dempsey captures second in the Class 3A high jump by clearing 5-7, tying her personal best. The PV junior reached states by winning districts with a mark of 5-5. Yatsko jumps a personal best of 16-7 3/4 to place eighth in the 2A long jump. The Blue Raider’s previous best was 16-5, which won her a silver medal at districts.
