Let’s Preserve

That Penn State Extension newsletter just arrived and I wondered how many readers are not aware of that amazing publication. One of the ideas in the latest edition, May-June 2026, is “Drying Strawberries.”

Decades ago, my Oma and my mother in Germany dried a lot of things, but strawberries were canned. They did dry blueberries, apples, etc.; however, I do not recall strawberries being dried. Rhubarb, another topic in the current pamphlet, can be frozen or made into delicious strawberry-rhubarb jam or pie.

To receive this timely publication, contact the local extension office for either Monroe or Carbon County, or email Sarah Davis at spd5944@psu.edu or Stacy Reed at sls374@psu.edu.
