May 20, 1993 — Lehighton’s Carl Wolter and Joy Haydt both capture gold medals in the javelin event at the District 11 Class 3A track and field meet, held at Northern Lehigh. Wolter, a junior, defends his district title by posting a throw of 193-3. Haydt, a sophomore, claims the girls title by getting off a heave of 130-3, which breaks a school record. The Indians’ Ethan Savitsky clears 13-3 in the pole vault to finish second and qualify for states. The only other area state qualifier is Pleasant Valley’s Melanie Judkins, who places second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.8.
