Marian’s baseball team clinched a tie for first in Schuylkill League Division 2 with a victory Monday over Mahanoy Area.

BASEBALL

Marian-Mahanoy Area

Chase Grier struck out 10 batters while only allowing one run on one hit and one walk to help Marian win 14-1 over Mahanoy Area in Schuylkill League play.

Grier was also productive at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Roman Bednarek tallied three RBIs to lead the Colts, while Mitchell had two in a 2-for-2 outing.

Pine Grove-Panther Valley

A big offensive game from Dane Hannevig helped Pine Grove post an 8-2 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Hannevig finished 4-for-5 including a home run. He scored twice and had two RBIs.

Kaiden Umbenhauer added three hits for the Cardinals, while Jacob Hatter contributed a pair of hits and two runs.

For the Panthers, Brody Breiner collected two hits. Michael Mazzie chipped in with a hit and two runs, and Kaden Koerbler had a hit and an RBI.

Peyton Schley went six scoreless innings and struck out 11 batters as part of a shutout for Tri-Valley, who took down Tamaqua 9-0 in Schuylkill League action.

Schley also produced a team-high three RBIs, but Jason Stewart was the Bulldogs’ best hitter as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored.

The Raiders only mustered three hits, one each from Jake Yenser, Landon Kamant and Gavan Hess.

Weatherly-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven jumped out to a fast start and cruised to a 15-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Alan Evans went 4-for-4, including a double and triple, and knocked in four runs for the Hurricanes.

The winners also received a hit and two RBIs from Chase Yoder, Elliot Wehr and Bradyn Diehl.

The Wreckers’ only hit came off the bat of Corbin Wagner.

Brian Kitchell pitched a four-hitter, and the Stroudsburg bats woke up after a slow start to gain a 12-1 EPC victory over Pleasant Valley.

Kitchell walked two and struck out nine to help the Mounties clinch a district playoff berth.

Will Ferguson collected four hits and knocked in four runs for the winners, who were held scoreless through the first three innings. Jack Hiscott added two hits, while Kitchell, Ryan Pacitti and Collin O’Connor all knocked in two runs.

For the Bears, Sam Smale had a pair of hits and Gavin Bates had a hit and scored the team’s only run.

Tied in the seventh, Hailey Mroczka launched a walk-off home run to give Mahanoy Area a 6-5 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Both squads traded runs through the fifth when Naomi Kowalick gave the Golden Bears a 5-4 lead with a two-run single.

Molly Evans tied the score at five for the Raiders with an RBI triple in the seventh, only for Mroczka to walk it off in the bottom frame.

Evans finished with two RBIs for Tamaqua, while Mia Bamford went 3-for-4, and Peyton Faust struck out eight through four innings of work.

Marian outhit host Tri-Valley, but the Bulldogs ended up with a 13-6 Schuylkill League victory.

Olivia Witmer had three hits and knocked in three runs for Tri-Valley, which won its sixth straight game.

The Bulldogs also received homers from both Lydia Rodichok and Myah Schwalm.

For the Fillies, who had 13 hits to Tri-Valley’s 12, Deanna Pugh finished 3-for-4 with three runs, while Gracie Sendatch also went 3-for-4 and added two RBIs.

Allison Scherer pitched a three-inning perfect game as Schuylkill Haven rolled to a 15-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Scherer struck out eight of the nine batters she faced. She also collected two hits, scored twice and knocked in two runs.

Kaitlyn Russo, Aisley Jenan, Lexi Mull and Braelynn Strenkoski all finished with a pair of hits.

Jordan Cook tossed a three-hit shutout, and also hit a three-run home run to lead Stroudsburg to an 11-0 EPC win over Pleasant Valley.

Cook walked one and struck out eight. She gave herself an early lead by connecting for her homer in the opening inning.

Madelyn Vargas added three hits, three runs and an RBI while Ava Fagan-Huse also went deep for the Mounties, who have won eight in a row.

For PV, Emma George collected two of her team’s three hits.

Pine Grove broke things open with a nine-run seventh inning to finish off an 18-0 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

The Cardinals wasted little time getting started, scoring twice in the first on a home run by Jamie Dinger, and an RBI single from Khloe Jessman.

Callee Leffler led the offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam and six RBIs. Tailyn Bohr collected three hits and drove in three runs, while Jessman added two hits and three RBIs.

Panther Valley was limited to two hits, with Isabella D’Ancona and Janessa Prudente each recording singles.

Dinger earned the win for Pine Grove, tossing three hitless innings with six strikeouts.

In a non-league game from Saturday, Northern Lehigh earned a narrow 2-1 victory over Bethlehem Catholic.

Addison Smith pitched a six-hitter for the Bulldogs, allowing just the one run and no walks while striking out seven.

Kylee Snyder had two hits and scored a run for the winners, while Savannah Cast added a hit and a run.
