Polk Township reviews three zoning amendments

Polk Township is reviewing three amendments to the zoning ordinance: stormwater ordinance, assistant dwelling units (in-law suites) and data centers. The Planning Commission will be reviewing the three items as the supervisors want them to be reviewed and updated.

Beginning this month, Waste Management will no longer be hauling trash from the transfer station. Township employees will be taking care of the trash.

Hamlet Estates will be doing their subdivision in two phases. Three lots will be completed in the first phase with lots 2 through 11, including a cul-de-sac, planned for the second phase.

A request was made by Evergreen Lake for a grant to help fund new roads in the community. They were advised to speak to the county as they have to apply for grants through a government agency.

Camp Harlem’s plan was approved for an additional building, which will be used for leadership classes.

Supervisors will be making a decision about the Saeger’s rezoning request from R1 to R3. Altemose Hauling received conditional use approval to allow a contractor property on their property on Route 209.

Two replicas of the America 250 keystone were approved should one get damaged.

The Polk Fire Company responded to 26 emergencies in March and 19 in April, with a year to date total of 79 responses. They also completed 347 hours of training and 12 hours of fundraising.

Members Taylor Croshey and Dale Kessler completed their Essentials of Firefighting class. On May 18, the fire company will be hosting a blood drive. On May 28 to 30, the Fireman’s Festival will be held at the West End Fairgrounds.

Community Day will be held at the Township Park from noon to 5 p.m. on May 24.
