Weatherly district to offer cyber program
Starting with the next school year, the Weatherly Area School District will begin offering a new cyber-school option for students and their families.
The new cyber program, called WAVE, will support students who benefit from learning in a more personalized or flexible environment, including those with work commitments, medical needs, homeschool families looking for a quality option, or families seeking a high-quality alternative to traditional instruction.
The Weatherly schools are partnering with Pearson Virtual Schools to create the online public school that will service students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
“A key priority of the program is maintaining strong connections to the Weatherly community,” said Dr. Robert Croop, superintendent of the Weatherly Area School District.
“Cyber students may participate in athletics, clubs and school activities, and we are exploring additional in-person engagement opportunities specifically for cyber learners to build community and connection,” he said.
There will be no cost for families to enroll. Students will have access to a full catalog of Pennsylvania-aligned courses, including core subjects, electives, world languages, Honors, AP and CTE opportunities.
Each student will be supported by a dedicated district teacher who will monitor progress, assist with course planning and provide ongoing academic support.
Students will also have access to district counseling services and district technology support, and parents will be able to monitor student progress through a dedicated portal.
“Our goal is to provide a flexible, high-quality option that helps keep students engaged with the Weatherly Area School District while meeting their individual learning needs,” Croop added.
More information will be provided to Weatherly families throughout the summer.
