Track and Field Roundup: Results from April 7

Jim Thorpe and Northwestern earned a split in Colonial League action Tuesday, with the Olympians claiming the boys meet and the Tigers earning a win in the girls event.

Elsewhere, the Tamaqua boys and Pleasant Valley girls also claimed victories.

Northwestern-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe and Northwestern split their Colonial League meet.

Kayden Spence won three events as the Olympian boys earned an 87-63 victory, while the Tiger girls captured all three relays en route to a 114-63 triumph.

Spence crossed first in the 100, 200 and 400. Thorpe also received a pair of individual wins from both Spencer Gothard (hurdles) and Gavin Strohl (shot out, discus).

Northwestern’s Sophia Schaffer captured three events (100, 200, long jump), while Taylor Langley registered firsts in both hurdling races.

Pen Argyl-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh suffered a Colonial League sweep at the hands of visiting Pen Argyl.

Despite the 89-61 loss for the Bulldog boys, Zaid Salih posted wins in three events — 800, 1600 and pole vault. Kellen Bauer and Landen Klimek both picked up a pair of individual firsts. Bauer won the 100 and high jump, while Klimek captured the shot put and discus.

In the girls competition, won 86-64 by the Green Knights, Nolehi’s Natalie Moffitt posted a pair of victories by claiming the 400 and high jump.

Minersville-Tamaqua

Tamaqua gained a split in its Schuylkill League meet with Minersville.

The Blue Raider boys gained an 89-56 win, while the Miners posted a 101-49 victory in the girls competition.

Depth helped the Tamaqua boys as nine different athletes captured individual wins. The Raiders also a big advantage in the field, outscoring their opponent by a 44-14 margin in those events.

In girls action, Tamaqua managed wins in just four individual events. Minersville’s Maggie Hoffman-Long led her team by taking the 100, long jump and triple jump.

ES North-Pleasant Valley

The Pleasant Valley girls defeated East Stroudsburg North to allow the Bears to split their EPC meet with the Timberwolves.

Kylie Fuentes (shot put, javelin), Ava Oviedo (long jump, triple jump) and Alexandra DePalma (high jump, pole vault) all won two events to help PV earn a 95-55 victory. The Bears dominated in the field events, outscoring North by a 50-9 margin.

Pleasant Valley fell by a 90-60 score in the boys competition. The Bears received firsts from eight different individuals.
