Police seek caregiver they say exploited 81-year-old

In February, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the state police at Stroudsburg initiated an investigation into a report access device fraud involving an 81-year-old care-dependent victim.

The victim reported multiple unauthorized transactions associated with Uber Inc., DoorDash Inc. and Lyft Inc.

Upon reviewing financial statements, the 81-year-old identified charges of varying amounts occurring over a two-week period — from Feb. 2 through Feb. 14 — resulting in a total loss of approximately $477.

During the investigation, the victim reported that a new caregiver had been assigned through Red Lion Home Care at the beginning of February. The caregiver was identified as Shaquana Taylor of Stroudsburg, whom police say remains at large.

A search warrant was executed to obtain account information associated with the victim’s debit card.

As a result, police said evidence confirmed that Taylor, while employed as a caregiver through Red Lion Home Care, used the victim’s debit card information to pay for her own personal services without authorization.

Police recommended that Red Lion notify any individuals who were under the care of Taylor and urge them to review their financial records, as there is concern that additional victims may exist. Further investigation into Red Lion Home Care remains ongoing at this time.

Trooper Paige Nelson filed felony charges against Taylor in Monroe County.

Charges include financial exploitation of an older adult or care-dependent person; access device fraud; identity theft; and related theft offenses.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Taylor is asked to contact Trooper Nelson at 570-619-6800.
