Woodcock Watch, owl program set March 28

A Woodcock Watch and Owl Prowl will be held from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. March 28 from Tuscarora State Park in Barnesville.

Participants should meet at the Crow Trail parking lot.

Join local birding expert Dave Kruel for a rare opportunity to witness the remarkable mating display of the American woodcock.

As dusk settles, participants will watch the male woodcock perform his spiraling aerial courtship flight — an unusual and fascinating behavior seldom seen even by seasoned naturalists.

Once darkness falls, the group will head into the forest to search for local owls.

Under Kruel’s guidance, the group will explore the world of nocturnal hunting and learn how to observe these elusive birds in their nighttime habitat.

This program is free. Wear sturdy shoes and weather appropriate outdoor clothing, and bring a flashlight.
