D-11 announces football playoff schedule

All nine Times News area teams have qualified for the postseason with the tournament starting Thursday

District 11 announced its football playoff schedule over the weekend, and all nine Times News area teams will be participating.

The opening rounds will be played this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Northwestern Lehigh, winners of four straight district titles, is the highest seed among area teams with the No. 1 ranking in the Class 3A field.

The Tigers, with a record of 9-1, will host another Times News team in Thursday’s quarterfinal round when they face Panther Valley. The Panthers are the No. 8 seed with a 4-6 record.

Of the eight teams in Class 3A, five are from the area. In addition to Northwestern and Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe, Palmerton and Tamaqua all will also be competing in the field.

The Olympians enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed and a 6-4 record, and will be at home on Thursday against the sixth-seeded Blue Raiders, also 6-4 and winners of four straight games.

The Blue Bombers, seeded fifth with a 7-3 record, will be on the road and face Executive Education on its new field Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, in Class 1A Marian is one of the four teams part of the sub-regional field (which includes District 2). The Colts, with a mark of 4-6, will be on the road Friday night to take on second-seeded Tri-Valley.

Northern Lehigh, which had been ranked No. 1 most of the season in Class 2A, dropped to the third seed and must travel to Shenandoah Valley on Friday. The Bulldogs own a 5-5 record.

The 5A class will feature Pleasant Valley, seeded second. The Bears, winners of four straight games, will host Pocono Mountain East on Thursday. PV is 6-4, and its four defeats have been by just a combined 21 points.

Lehighton posted its most wins in a season since 2017, finishing the regular season with a 7-3 mark, but in a talented 4A field the Indians ended as the No. 5 seed, narrowly being outrated by Pottsville. Because of that, Lehighton will have to travel to face the Crimson Tide, also 7-3. That game will take place Saturday afternoon.

Below is the schedule for the entire District 11 football playoffs, as well as the matchups for the Eastern Conference finals.
