Weatherly school board member Mulvaney resigns

The Weatherly Area School Board on Wednesday accepted the resignation of board member Nancy Mulvaney, who is leaving the position for medical reasons.

Board president April Walters said she received correspondence March 8 from Claudine Lenodia, Mulvaney’s power of attorney. She said Mulvaney is in Forest Hills Rehabilitation and will move with Lenodia to Maryland when released.

“Nancy won’t be able to fulfill her role as a member of the school board and therefore is resigning. She hopes that someone will fill her shoes and advocate for Weatherly’s next generation of students,” Lenodia said.

She added, “Nancy is doing much better, surrounded by her niece, grandniece and grandnephew. We just celebrated her 77th birthday this past Friday (March 6th).”

In other business, a motion to approve the contract between the district and the Confidential Administrative Staff, retroactive from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028, for a total cost of $35,552.92 for the three years, failed because of a 4-4 tie vote.

Other actions

The board approved the following:

• Volunteers for the 2025-26 sport season: Rachel Witner, junior high softball assistant coach and Isobel Hoffman varsity baseball manager.

• The 2026-27 school calendar and the program of studies.

• April 7 as a makeup day for Feb. 23.

• June 5 as the Class of 2026 graduation date.

• The Carbon Career & Technical Institute’s 2026-27 budget and the CLIU Intergovernmental Agreement for special education programs and services for the 2026-27 school year.

• Added a motion to the agenda to withdraw the petition to vacate Blakeslee Avenue near the school property. The motion then passed.

At its Feb. 11 meeting, the board had passed a motion asking the Weatherly Borough Council to reverse its decision to vacate that roadway.
