The Panther Valley Senior Center announced the menu from March 16-20.

Monday: Chicken Fritters, Red Potatoes, Vegetable Blend, Tropical Fruit or Turkey and Cheese Sandwich

Tuesday: Ham, Parslied Potatoes, Sautéed Cabbage, Melon or Bologna and Cheese Sandwich

Wednesday: Ravioli Alfredo, Stewed Tomatoes, Vegetables, Cantaloupe or Harvest Chicken Salad

Thursday: Vegetable Soup, Cheeseburger, Sweet Potato Tots, Fruit Salad or Ham and Cheese Sandwich

Friday: Chicken Marsala, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Pound Cake or Salad with Tuna

Nesquehoning

Historical Society

The Nesquehoning Historical Society has announced the start of a series of local history presentations as part of the town’s America250 Celebration.

The first presentation in this series will be “The History of Nesquehoning Village, Part I.”

There will be two showings of the presentation — 6 p.m. on March 30 and 1 p.m. on April 4. Doors open an hour before the presentation.

Historian Vince Hydro’s presentation will cover many facets of the town’s early history, including meaning of the name, “Nesquehoning;” the early settlers in the valley; the discovery of anthracite coal along Room Run and a brief history of the town’s coal mining industry.

The events will take place at the society’s museum, 157 W. Railroad St.

This event is open to the public free of charge, although donations to the historical society are always welcome.

Nesquehoning Hose Company #1

The Nesquehoning Hose Company will hold several fundraisers over the next few weeks.

• A Lenten food sale will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. March 13. Items will be sold in pints and quarts. The menu includes penne and vodka sauce supreme, drop dough haluski, clam chowder and mac and cheese. Pre-orders are strongly recommended by texting Terry at 570-778-3802.

• The fire company will also hold its March wing sale from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 19. Menu includes wings, cheesesteaks, pierogies and French fries. This is eat in or take out. For more information, text Terry.

• An Easter flower box sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 28 and 29; 4 to 7 p.m. March 30 to April 2; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 3 and 4. Boxes include two each of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and lilies.

Panther Valley

Baseball competition

The Knights of Columbus of the Panther Valley will host a free Pitch, Hit and Run Competition at the Lansford Little League complex on April 11. The event is sponsored by Major League Baseball.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. and competition begins at 11. Age groups are open to both boys and girls age 7 through 14. Proof of age is required.

St. Joseph Parish

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley will hold its feast day dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. on March 21 in the Rev. James J. Burdess Social Hall. The dinner includes a full roast beef meal.

Pre-order a meal until March 16. Both eat in and take out is available. Limited walk-ins will be accepted until sold out the day of the dinner.

The Shrine of St. Therese will hold a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out on March 15 at Madonna Hall behind the shrine in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning. The event is eat in or take out.

PV Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers met on March 9 with 13 members and one guest present.

The invocation, “Amen,” was recited. A member donated a teddy bear to the club.

A raffle will be held on April 27. The group will give a flower for Easter to Fran Golden, a former member who is in the hospital. The meeting closed and bingo was played.

The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. March 23 at the St. Ann’s Apartments in Lansford.
