Area girls named to Schuylkill League A-S teams

A number of area players were recently named to the Schuylkill League Girls Coaches All-Star teams.

Tamaqua’s Millie Black heads the list, receiving First Team recognition.

Black averaged 13.3 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per contest to help the Lady Raiders post a 16-8 record and earn berths in both the league and district playoffs.

Teammate Lauren Ligenza was one of four players from the area that were selected to the Second Team.

Ligenza nearly averaged a double-double this season, hitting for 11.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Marian’s duo of Addy Marek and Deanna Pugh also made the Second Team, as did Panther Valley’s Morgan Orsulak.

Marek averaged a double-double, posting 16.1 points and 10.6 boards per contest. Pugh, who tallied 11.3 ppg, led the team in both assists (2.9 per game) and steals (3.6 per game). The two helped the Fillies to a 13-9 regular-season record.

Orsulak, meanwhile, joined the 1,000-point club this season. The senior topped PV in scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounds (9.0 rpg).
