Turnpike crashes
State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:
• Jeremy J. Barkanic II, 23, of Lehighton, was cited for careless driving after a two-vehicle crash at 3:25 p.m. Feb. 13 at mile marker 60.8 in North Whitehall Township. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2014 Nissan northbound when he attempted to pass a 2016 Subaru Forester driven by Madison E. Silber, 22, of Perkasie, in the right lane of travel. They said he applied the brakes but lost control of the Nissan, which struck the back of the Forester.
Police said both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
• Police responded to a hit-and-run at 7:09 a.m. Feb. 12 at mile marker 80.1 in Penn Forest Township.
They said a vehicle traveling south was overtaking a 2024 Freightliner driven by Leondrea D. Glenn, 27, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, when it struck the rig and left the scene.
The rig sustained minor damage, police said.
• Police said snow and ice that flew off the top of a tractor-trailer struck the windshield of a vehicle at 1:22 p.m. Feb. 3 in the area of mile marker 94.6 in Kidder Township.
The driver of the 2017 Cadillac Escalade, Nathan T. Edwards, 47, of Tunkhannock, was uninjured after the debris hit the windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Police said the rig left the scene.
• Nolan N. Montes, 20, of Allentown, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:50 a.m. Jan. 17 at mile marker 92.7 in Kidder Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
They said the crash occurred as Jason R. Scheuren, 43, of Haddon Township, New Jersey, was driving a 2002 Ford F-250 northbound when he lost control of it and hit a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek that was stopped on that right shoulder of the road.
Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.
• Angel A. Ruchi Morocho, 38, of Hatboro, was uninjured when the car he was driving struck a deer at mile marker 84.1 in Penn Forest Township at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 17, police said.
Ruchi Morocho was driving a 2024 Toyota Corolla southbound when the deer entered the travel lanes and was struck, police said. The car came to rest on the western shoulder of the road.
