January 28, 1966 — Four Tamaqua players reach double-digit scoring as the Blue Raiders hold on for a 68-61 East Penn League victory over Central Catholic. Paul Long connects for 15 of his 17 points in the first half as Tamaqua opens up a 12-point halftime lead. George Krell adds six of his 17 points in the second quarter to help the Raiders, coached by Eli Purnell, gain that advantage. Art Connely contributes 13 points to the win, while Ed Tomchick aids the Tamaqua cause with 10. Purnell’s club also thrives at the free throw line, getting there 43 times.
