The Tamaqua girls basketball team clinched a district playoff berth by defeating Pottsville on Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-N’umberland C.

A big third quarter helped Weatherly pull away from host Northumberland Christian and record a 71-44 non-league victory.

Matt Adler and Dominick Kokinda both had eight points in the third as the Wreckers scored 25 points to extend a six-point halftime lead to 18.

Kokinda finished with a game-high 22 points, while Adler ended with 16. Ian McKeegan also aided the Weatherly cause with 13.

For the host Warriors, Ethan Bennett tallied 16 points.

Bethlehem Catholic hit 13 three-pointers in cruising to a 66-27 EPC victory over host Pleasant Valley.

Parker McClary drained six of those treys for the Hawks, who won their fourth straight game, and finished with 22 points.

The winners, who held a 26-point halftime lead, also received 22 points from Sammy Barona.

Jake Loch and Sebastian Sacci both scored nine points to pace the Bears.

Nativity-Marian

Marian jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a decisive 43-13 Schuylkill League Division 2 win over visiting Nativity.

The Fillies’ DeAnna Pugh and Brook Hannis-Miskar tied for game-high honors with 14 points.

Pugh sparked the Fillies in the first half, scoring all 14 of her points during the first two quarters. Hannis-Miskar’s 14 points was a season-high for her.

Marian’ Katie Knock also chipped in with seven points.

Tamaqua clinched a district playoff berth thanks to a 37-28 Schuylkill League victory over host Pottsville.

The Blue Raiders held a seven-point advantage at the break and extended the margin in the second half.

Millie Black finished with a double-double for the Blue Raiders, scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Kendle Miller also tossed in 14 points, while Lauren Ligenza collected 10 boards.

For the Tide, Jo Barnhart posted a team-high nine points.

A stellar first half propelled Bethlehem Catholic to a 59-20 EPC win over Pleasant Valley.

The Golden Hawks used a big 21-2 second quarter to take control. Becahi’s Aliyah Brame led all scorers with 12 points, while Leah Ault added 10.

Amaya Fuentes finished with a team-high seven points for PV.

The win was the fourth straight for the Golden Bears.

Ella Connelly paced Mahanoy with a game-high 18 points, while Felicia Bro finished with 16.

The Wreckers received a team-high 11 points from Kelly Reiner.

SWIMMING

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Shaylee Gormley and Savannah Wilson both won a pair of events to help the Tamaqua girls earn a 114-39 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Gormley captured the 100 and 200 freestyle races, while Wilson touched first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Wilson’s time of 1:07.05 in the 100 breast also set a new pool record.

The Blue Raider girls, who took first in all but two events, also received individual wins from Ava Jones (50 freestyle), Audrey Nattress (100 butterfly) and Kate Behun (500 freestyle).

In the boys meet, Tamaqua’s Brandon Temarantz won both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, but the Tide triumphed by a 72-60 score.
