State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:

• Raul Valdez Soto, 24, of Beaver Meadows, was uninjured after a one-vehicle crash at 10:36 a.m. Dec. 23 on Skyline Drive, New Castle Township.

Police said Valdez Soto was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado northbound when it traveled onto the right shoulder of the road and crashed into a guide rail.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Valdez Soto was cited after the crash, according to police.

• Two people had suspected minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 9:29 a.m. Jan. 4 on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township.

Police said Robert Zimmerman, 66, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, who was a passenger in one of the vehicle, and Melanie I. Upson-Rafferty, 69, of Dexter, New York, refused medical services transports from the scene.

They said the crash occurred when Mary E. Zimmerman, 66, also of Myrtle Beach, was driving a 2023 Nissan Pathfinder southbound when she fell asleep and the vehicle struck the rear of a 2025 Kia driven by Upson-Rafferty.

Both vehicle had functional damage but were able to be driven from the scene.

Zimmerman was cited for careless driving, police said.

• Mamadou Diaby, 42, of New York, New York, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 6:40 p.m. Jan. 7 on Interstate 81 in Delano Township. He was uninjured in the crash.

Police said he was driving a 2023 Freightliner that entered a grassy area in the center median and reentered the northbound lane before striking a guide rail.

The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:17 p.m. Jan. 9 at the intersection of Summer Valley Road (Route 443) and Cold Run Road, East Brunswick Township.

Police said the crash occurred as Barbara H. Breiner, 79, of Andreas, was driving a 2010 Dodge Caravan when she attempted to make a left turn onto Route. 443 without proper clearance and the Caravan struck a 2017 Kia Sorento driven by Payge C. Lonergan, 33, of New Ringgold.

After the impact, the Sorento traveled off the road and hit a guide rail.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.
