State police at Fern Ridge
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following incidents:
• A 75-year-old Stroudsburg woman is the victim of a theft by deception incident in which she was bilked out of $16,200.
She reported at 6 p.m. Aug. 18 that her computer was compromised with malicious advertisements, after which she saw an ad that provided her a telephone number to call to resolve her computer issues. She said she called the number and spoke to multiple people, who she believed to be from a variety of agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and the Social Security Administration.
The woman said she was told she needed to go to her local bank, Wells Fargo, and withdraw the money, which she proceeded to do. She told police she met a “field agent” near her property and delivered the $16,200 in cash to the person whom she described as a Hispanic male.
• Police are investigating a burglary that was reported at Bright Star Fuel, Route 209, Brodheadsville, at 10:18 p.m. Sept. 22.
The said two unknown males arrived there in a Chevrolet Suburban and that the driver exited the vehicle and used a tool to break the lock on the front door of the business.
They said the driver searched through a filing cabinet and took about $6,000 in cash and a checkbook before exiting the building, entering the Suburban and fleeing northbound on Route 209.
In addition to the money and checkbook being stolen, police said the lock cylinder on the door was damaged at an estimated $250.
• Police are investigating the theft of jewelry that was reported at 4:57 p.m. Sept. 26.
It occurred at a property on Poplar Drive, Penn Forest Township. The victim is a 68-year-old woman from Albrightsville.
• A 23-year-old Jim Thorpe man is the victim of a theft by deception incident police were called to at 12:19 p.m. Sept. 21 at a property on Parkside Avenue, Tobyhanna Township.
Police said the man reported someone opened a Verizon Wireless account in his name without authorization.
• Anthony Mucciolo, 42, of Stroudsburg, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after police made a traffic stop at 1:48 p.m. Sept. 20.
Police said he was stopped in a 2016 Kia Forte for summary violations in the 100 block of Olsen Road, Hamilton Township, after which police determined he was under the influence of alcohol to a degree that rendered him incapable of safe driving.
• Police received a ChildLine report at 4:34 p.m. Sept. 29 in which the reported victim is a 16-year-old girl from Brodheadsville.
The report indicated the suspected incident took place on Cherry Hill Lane, Chestnuthill Township.
