Carbon hires new probation officer

Carbon County’s adult probation office will again have a leadership team beginning next week.

On Thursday, the board of commissioners acknowledged the hiring of a new chief adult probation officer, as well as a status change of a current employee in that department.

According to the personnel report, Frances A. Policicchio of South Abington has been named the chief adult probation officer, while Kimberly S. Cooper of Nesquehoning will move from probation officer II to deputy chief adult probation officer, both effective Oct. 20.

Policicchio will be paid $41.23 per hour for the head position; while the deputy chief position salary had been set at $36.27 per hour.

The two positions were vacated earlier this year when Janene Holter of Tamaqua resigned from the chief position in August and longtime deputy chief Joseph J. Berke of Walnutport retired on Oct. 1.

Since then, district court administrator Kelly Hamm, as well as probation officers Joseph Bettine and Cooper have worked together to oversee the operations of the adult probation office.
