Lehighton Police Department has cautioned residents about several thefts from vehicles in the past week.
Borough police Chief Troy Abelovsky posted the announcement on the police department’s Facebook page.
“During the past week, three thefts of property from motor vehicles, have been reported in the borough,” Abelovsky said. “In all incidents, residents have reported that they had not locked their vehicles the night before. Officers are aware of the situation and are actively patrolling the borough during the evening hours.”
Abelovsky provided several tips for residents to protect their property:
• Don’t leave your wallet, purse or any items of value in your vehicle unattended.
• If items are left in a vehicle, don’t leave them in plain view. Cover the items or secure them in a compartment out of view.
• Take your vehicle’s key fob or keys with you.
• Park in a well-illuminated spot, or install motion lights near your parking location if possible.
• Make sure all windows are fully closed.
• Lock the doors. Don’t allow someone easy access to your vehicle or valuables.
Abelovsky added that residents who have ring cameras or exterior cameras and capture any suspicious footage, people prowling or peering into parked vehicles, should contact the police department or forward that video footage to police@lehightonpd.org.
“Assist us in protecting your property and the property of your neighbors,” he said.
