The Pleasant Valley boys and girls soccer teams and volleyball squad all earned victories on Wednesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley celebrated Senior Night in style, erupting for four second-half goals to top Stroudsburg in an exciting Mountain Division matchup.

After a scoreless first half that saw both teams trade quality chances, the Bears’ offense came alive following the break. Marta Perry opened the scoring off a perfectly placed through ball from Peyton Foder. Moments later, Keegan Merklin extended the lead with a left-footed finish after a strong run down the left flank on a setup from Payton Shillady.

Stroudsburg responded when Leah McWilliams converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Pleasant Valley quickly took control again. Perry netted her second of the match on a breakaway assisted by Merklin, before Merklin found Foder for the final goal to cap the offensive outburst.

Pleasant Valley’s defense held strong behind the efforts of Rylee Rath, Bailey Clifford, Hayley Ott and Jovie Hanson, with goalkeeper Sadie Rizzo making several key saves to preserve the win. The Bears held a 16-18 shot disadvantage, but were efficient in their finishing and composure late.

The victory completed Pleasant Valley’s sweep of Pocono-area (Mountain Division) opponents for the season, and served as a fitting sendoff for seniors Rath, Foder, Rizzo, Ella Collins, Alissa Kolesar, Josie Fetterman and Amarah Matthews.
