The 2025 Big Sit will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville.

The Big Sit is an annual birding event during which participants record bird species from a fixed 17-foot diameter circle. Unlike a traditional “Big Day,” all observations are made from this stationary spot using sight and sound.

Participants will count bird species and engage others in birding and nature education from the field near the camp store. The Schuylkill County Conservancy will have a banner, table and signs near the main parking lot.

Participants should bring binoculars, a folding chair and a love of nature. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

The event will be canceled if it rains.
