New salon goes from basic to ‘fun and funky’

From cuts to colors to extensions, April Weiss does it all.

And now, the Tamaqua woman is doing it all from her own shop.

Weiss recently opened Weiss Wicked Styles inside 138 W. Broad St. in Tamaqua.

“This dream came to life with so much more than just hard work — it came with heart, hustle and an army of support,” Weiss said.

She works her magic from inside the two-room salon.

“Anything fun and funky, I’m always down for,” said Weiss, who sports dark hair with touches of blue, pink and purple.

But she does basic haircuts, root touch-ups and traditional colors, too. She even travels to weddings and other events to style hair and apply makeup.

“I also specialize in working with special needs and autistic children, or people who struggle with sitting,” she said.

Opening her own shop is a dream come true for Weiss.

Having been in the business for over a decade following her graduation from Empire Beauty School, she’s worked at a handful of shops around the county.

Most recently, she shared space with Upper Echelon barbershop, just a few spaces away at 113 W. Broad St.

“If you want a mullet, I can do that,” Weiss said, referring to the retro hair style.

Waxing is another service — and so, too, are hair wraps.

“I travel to events to do hair wraps, or boho hair wraps,” Weiss said, rattling off a few summer events and fundraisers where she’s been.

She’s accepting new clients.

Weiss Wicked Styles is on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. More information is available from those sites, as well as photos of the styles, cuts and colors she’s done.

The building, which once housed Edward Jones financial advisers, is also home to G-Lady’s Community Food Pantry and ZT-3D prints and designs.
