Tamaqua police reported the following incidents:

• A Tamaqua man who police say beat a woman over the course of three days is in Schuylkill County Prison.

Officers said they spoke to the woman at 11:37 p.m. July 11 near her apartment on the 200 block of Cedar Street. She appeared to be in severe pain and had cuts on her nose and above her eye, police said. She told police that Mario Lorenzana, 35, had been abusing her for three days. Officers said numerous children at the location were crying and hysterical.

The woman said that in the most recent incident, Lorenzana pushed her down and punched her until the children chased him away.

One child who was part of the chase was still missing and the woman was worried that Lorenzana would attempt to return to Guatemala with the child. She told police that Lorenzana was an illegal immigrant.

Police eventually found Lorenzana and took him into custody. Officers said he begged to be deported to Guatemala. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment and committed to prison on $25,000 bail.

• A Newmanstown man who was stopped for speeding and driving without insurance on Owl Creek Road in Tamaqua was wanted on a warrant from Berks County.

Police stopped a vehicle driving by Larry Umbenhower, 34, at 4:20 p.m. July 13. When they ran his license information, police learned that he was wanted on the warrant. Police took him into custody and he was turned over to Berks County law enforcement.

• A Jim Thorpe woman wanted on warrants in Monroe County and New Jersey was taken into custody by police.

Police said they were sent on a welfare check to a home on East Union Street at 6 p.m. June 11 and spoke to four people inside the residence.

One of them, Kelly Cappello, 47, gave officers an incorrect name and Social Security information several times. Another occupant told police the woman’s real name, and police determined that Cappello was wanted.

Cappello then gave her real name and was taken into custody to await her return to Monroe County.

Tamaqua police charged her with providing false identification to law enforcement.

• Police charged a 17-year-old Tamaqua boy and Thomas Rogers, 20, of Tamaqua, with retail theft after they stole alcoholic beverages from a borough convenience store.
