2 men dead, woman injured in Shenandoah shooting

Two men are dead, and one woman in critical condition, following a triple shooting early Thursday morning in Shenandoah.

Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Public Information Officer Ethan Brownback said Shenandoah Police Department received a call at 1 a.m. from a woman relating that she received a text message saying that everyone was dead at 307 W. Center St.

Brownback said that upon arrival on scene, Shenandoah Police Department, Mahanoy Township Police Department, West Mahanoy Police Department, and Frackville Police Department gained forcible entrance into the residence due to the exigent circumstances.

He said once inside of the residence, a boy said to them “I need help,” and “daddy just shot mom and granddad.”

Brownback said they then observed an older man deceased on the couch on the first floor.

At that time, he said they then heard a gunshot from upstairs, and upon going to the second floor, they then observed another deceased male, along with a woman in critical condition.

Brownback said the woman was transported to Geisinger Medical and is still alive, however, in ICU.

He said gunshot wounds were found on all of the victims.

Brownback said state police were contacted and activated their major case team at around 1:30 a.m.

He said Forensics Services Unit cars, along with the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and assisted with the investigation.

Brownback said this was an isolated incident, and that there is no immediate threat to the public at this time.

He said anyone with information with regard to this case is encouraged to contact the PSP Troop L, Reading barracks

Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David Moylan III identified the two men who were killed in the incident.

Moylan said the victims who died in the shooting that occurred at 307 W. Center St. are Thomas Chernewski, 63, and Kevin Gordon, 40.

Moylan said post-mortem CT scans were conducted on the two decedents at the Schuylkill County Forensics Center in New Philadelphia.

He said the incident is still under investigation, but both of the deceased had gunshot wounds to the head.

Moylan said they are not going to rule on the cause or manner of death until the investigation is complete.
