Weissport seeks grant for flashing speed limit signs

Weissport Council is looking to get a grant to purchase flashing speed limit and crosswalk signs for the borough.

Council Vice President Bill Hartzell told Council he received information on a grant from Ssate Rep. Doyle Heffley’s office, a $5,000 grant from Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving, powered by Pace-O-Matic, which donates funds to volunteer fire departments, libraries, student program, pet rescues, and more.

Pace-o-Matic is a company the produces electronic skill games that are located in many establishments such as bars, gaming parlors and lounges. In 2024, they donated $850,000 to various charitable organizations.

Weissport Mayor Paulette Watson announced at the council meeting that she will not seek reelection at the next election, as she will be moving out of the area.

Weissport Police Chief Matthew Williams submitted the police report for March to May.

The Police Department took 15 calls during that period. The calls included three Quality of Life issues, five non-traffic citations, and calls for scattering rubbish, disorderly conduct, suspicious person, eviction of homeless, and traffic violations.

Weissport Borough Council President Arland Moyer suggested that council members be appointed to several committees to act as a liaison between the committee and the borough:

• Streets and Flood: Bill Hartzell, Colton Breiner and Arland Moyer Sr;

• Parks and Recreation: Andrew Hottenstein;

• Public Works: Andrew Hottenstein;

• Police and Safety: Shelley Fisher, and;

• Property: Arland Moyer Sr.
